The Laboratory focuses research on miniature quantum frequency standards (QFS, atomic clocks), based on coherent population trapping resonance (CPT) in alkali metal atoms. The Laboratory research programme includes fundamental research related to improving the quality of CPT resonance and to the creation of a highly competitive - by its stability parameters - compact laboratory QFS platform. On the basis of this miniature platform the laboratory develops highly stable atomic clocks, highly sensitive atomic magnetometers, gyroscopes, accelerometers and other devices/sensors working on the basis of compact quantum frequency standards.

Leading global manufacturers of laser systems and measuring instruments such as “Tekhnoscan”, “Angstrom” or “Lighthouse Photonics” (USA) are partners of the laboratory.
