Oil fields modelling is the primary focus of the Laboratory’s research. It provides new opportunities to study the structure of oil fields and their physical and chemical properties, forecast their efficiency and estimate hydrocarbon reserves. This is a fundamentally new field of research with the help of which it has become possible to solve the most important scientific and technological tasks, using the potential of the University.
The nature of porous environment is rather complex: it consists of a porous space filled with moving oil, gas and salt solutions. Such environment exhibits different properies and is described by different equations, depending on the size of the volume (scale) under consideration. Obtaining consensus equations for different scales and their numerical implementation represent the object of multiscale modelling.
The Laboratory was established by the Univesrity in collaboration with the company Baker Hughes, the third largest oil and gas service company in the world.
